On this 3-day, 38-mile trip we will camp at the exclusive WWTA campsite on Anderson Island and at Joemma Beach State Park. You must provide your own kayak-camping gear for shelter, cooking, etc. I'll provide a gear list if you need one. Trip rating: II-C
Friday, Aug 27 – We will meet at the Ash Way P&R off I-5 north of Lynnwood. We’ll drive to to the Purdy Boat Launch and leave one vehicle for our shuttle. Then we’ll head to our launch site at the Allyn Waterfront Park. We’ll paddle to Stretch Point State Park for a break, then paddle to McMicken Island for a lunch break. Our last leg is to the WWTA campsite at Joemma Beach State Park. Total distance about 12.4 miles. There is a $12/person fee to camp at the park.
Saturday, Aug 28 – After breakfast we’ll leave Joemma Beach and paddle to Taylor Bay Park.
We may be able to visit the nature preserve near the end of the peninsula. Then we’ll paddle on to the WWTA campsite on Anderson Island. This is a special place. Only one party is allowed to camp there per night. The campsite is on a sandbar with a lagoon behind it. Eagles often perch on the tall trees and many shorebirds frequent the beach. Total distance 7.8 miles.
Sunday, Aug 29 – There’s a low tide so you might want to take a few minutes to check out the sand dollars and geoduck clams on the beach. We’ll depart around 9:00am and paddle to Penrose Point State Park for a lunch break. Then we’ll paddle back to the Purdy Boat Launch Ramp. We’ll carpool back to Allyn Waterfront Park to pick up our cars, then drive back to Purdy Boat Launch to load up. Total paddling distance: 17.9 miles.
We can return to the Ash Way P&R via the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and I-5. We should be there by about 7:00 pm.
